'Shared Histories' Tuggeranong Regional Gallery, ACT 2007

'Shared Histories' is about the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Peoples of this country and the history we share. The stories are imprinted in the land and I see my role as a messenger, unpeeling the layers, interrogating historic circumstances and re-inserting the Indigenous presence.

I am intrigued by the absence of any reference to the 'original people' in the plans for Australian cities and towns, especially in the case of the National Capital, where I now reside. While I have great admiration for Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony's design of this 'organic city,' in the way it traces the contours of the land. I have extended their concept, by reinserting the powerful ancient culture that is ever present, despite the erasure.
